TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

“…You spotted snakes with double tongue /Thorny hedgehog, be not seen /Newts and blind-worms, do no wrong /Come Not near our fairy queen…”

Quoting Shakespeare…that make me feel smart.

I’ve always been attracted to A Mid Summer Night’s Dream. On a recent trip to London I strolled by the Globe and wondered what kind of mischief those Elizabethans got into on a warm summer’s eve—has much really changed over the last four hundred years?

Well, maybe the way we listen to our rock ‘n’ roll. One thing is for sure—this July 2015 marks the spot where Apple Computer makes its big push into streaming and world radio.

Not too dreamy, but dreamy thoughts have always guided my weekly playlist, and this week and summer are no exception. As life and the summer of 2015 “roll on,” our big new here in the canyon is the arrival of two kitties currently named Rocky and Carmella. OMFG they are tiny and cute!

How we ended up with these two girls has to be fate—maybe of the Shakespearean kind? We found it was actually much harder to adopt a kitty then we thought. Well, we took our time and in return these two sisters were revealed. If they were boys I would have pushed to name them Puck and Bottom after Shakespeare’s characters.

Puck is a clever, mischievous elf or sprite who personifies the wise knave. In the play, Shakespeare introduces Puck as the “shrewd and knavish sprite” and “that merry wanderer of the night.” In some scenes it would seem that he is longing for freedom.

Well, if I can’t name a cat after these guys, I sure as hell gonna dedicate this week’s Idelic Hour to these mischievous elves of summer. Some amazing summer tunes in here. The Tame Impala album is a mindblower! Stream it now!

And all these Idelic gems…

The Idelic Hit of the Week:
Jenny Hval – That Battle Is Over
