TVD Live: Bake Sale
at The Hi-tone

Over Labor Day weekend we were excited to see Bake Sale play with Tiger High at The Hi-Tone Café. Bake Sale is a Memphis based band featuring Natalie (guitar), Charlotte (guitar), Carly (bass) and Joy (drums) (for now their keeping their last names a secret.) The music sounds like a pop group from the 60s mixed with The Ventures.

The band’s popularity has been growing exponentially with every show. They love to infect the crowd with the dancing bug and this night was no different. They were awesome enough to answer few questions before they went on stage.

TVD: How would you describe your band to someone who’s never listened to you?

Natalie: Pop that should make you feel good but give you nightmares….that are pink.

Charlotte: Pink Nightmares!

TVD: Who has been your biggest influence?

Bake Sale: Each other, our friends, our child hood. It’s really hard to say because we as a band don’t listen to one thing and say hey we’re going to do that.

TVD: If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?

Carly: Oh that’s a good one.

Natalie: Yeah, I don’t know. I keep thinking being invisible or flying, being invisible or flying

Charlotte: I’d say reading minds or being really fast. Reading minds or being really fast. I don’t know. Reading minds might be weird. Walking through walls could be convenient.

Joy: not being nervous while being recorded.

Carly: Super confident!

TVD: what are you listening to right now?

Joy: well we are recording so we’ve listened to ourselves a lot, but also Kleenex, Charles Manson Family Band, Dolly Mixture. Also some 90s rap, since we grew up in the 90s.

Natalie:Oh and Kinfolk Thugs. We listened to them on loop while on the way to New York.

TVD: What is your favorite song to play live?

Charlotte and Carly: I really like the new one.

Charlotte: Wait which new one? I really like “Hammers, Drills and Pills” because Joy and I switch up and I play drums and she plays guitar.

Joy: Mixes things up.

Natalie: Yeah I really like that one too, but it really depends on what kind of mood I’m in ya know?
