Weekend Shots!

How was your week, Memphis? On the off-hand that you had a rough one, the bluff city has your back this weekend.

There is plenty of emotionally charged songwriting from opposite ends of the spectrum, a funny show to get you feeling good, and brand new music to show you there’s still hope in the future. Get your bulletproof vest on; it’s time for some weekend shots.

Friday (8/3) is gonna kick things off on a youthful note as the pretty angst of a few native acts will tear through the sound system of the New Daisy theatre. Adorable axe act Running With Giants are working off of their most recent self-titled EP. This wide-eyed group of rockers has songs perfect for those young (like, really young) at heart. As Skies Cave In and 7 Days to Heaven are also billed, rounding out the tour de force of fiercely overdriven songwriting.

If you’re a little (or a lot) older than 16, Friday also has something for those that remember the decades of yore. Southern Rockers Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ will be bringing their older sense of jaded emotionalism to The Hi-Tone Cafe. The quartet has been playing for well over 25 years and has an extensive back catalog of hits including “Can’t Promise You The World” and “Straight to Hell.” Beast Finger (which is the electric incarnation of Memphis notables Devil Train) will be giving ample support with a great show and plenty of raw, aggressive sound.

Saturday (8/4) will be the perfect bounce back to fun town after crying your eyes out all Friday night. Local rock outfit Aurora has been kicking up dust across town over the past few months in anticipation for their debut release. This weekend culminates the long wait with the Aurora CD release party at the Hard Rock Cafe. Also on deck are harmony-intensive rockers Inner 61, hard rock Lost Souls Found, and singer/songwriter (not really rock) Curtis Mason. Lots of rocking to be done here so make it out if rocking out is your thing. Rock.

I really do hope you cried all your sad tears away because Saturday’s biggest recommendation will have you clearing your sinuses with massive amounts of haha’s and hehe’s (and maybe a few hoho’s IF YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING). Psuedo cheesy rapper Muck Sticky is on tour getting high and fucking shit up everywhere, and now he’s on his way to Memphis. The super dry comedian with super wet rap skills will not be all by his lonesome as everyone’s favorite MTV2 show creator Andy Milonakis rounds out the evening. Milonakis who also rolls as a comedian, writer, producer, and a myriad of other things, will be bringing his pho-serious hip-hopping along to make the evening… uh… er… really funny.

This weekend entails feeling your feelings and laughing your face off. We hope to see you out there!
