TVD Recommends: Happy Hour gig at
the BMC today, 1/11

This afternoon, beginning at 5PM, the Marcello Benetti Quartet will be performing at the club on the corner of Esplanade Avenue and Decatur Street on the edge of the French Quarter.

Though the leader, a drummer and composer, may not be familiar to causal jazz fans in New Orleans, he is one of the most acclaimed Italian musicians and he just relocated here. Joining him are some of the best improvisers and performers in the city. Expect to see Rex Gregory on saxophones, Jeff Albert on trombone and Helen Gillet on cello. Gillet performed yesterday at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Benetti has performed before in the Crescent City including a trip last May that was featured on TVD. He is a creative musician with compelling compositions. Check out the video of a performance in Italy that also includes Albert.
