Jazz in the Park releases season four lineup and expands hours

This morning at 10:30 AM, the leaders of the newest sensation on the outdoor concert series scene announced the bands that are scheduled for the nine-week run that begins September 5, 2013.

Among the highlights are appearances by homegrown greats Davell Crawford and Stephanie Jordan (September 12), and a new band from the legendary percussionist, bandleader and vocalist Cyril Neville (October 10).

Neville (pictured above) has fronted numerous ensembles in his long career including a decades-long run with the family band, the Neville Brothers. His newest aggregation is dubbed Cyril Neville’s Swamp Funk. His wife Gaynielle will open the show with her Sweet Stuff Band.

The Jazz in the Park series is making strides in presenting a wide range of female talent from New Orleans. In addition to the aforementioned Jordan and Neville, guitarist and singer Mia Borders is slated to open for the Stooges Brass Band the first week, and up-and-comer Erica Falls (pictured below) will open for Shamarr Allen on September 26.

Jazz in the Park has expanded its hours for the fourth season, with an official opening time of 12 noon. Congo Square will play host to an arts and crafts village, accompanied by a jazz trio and full bar. The Marketplace at Armstrong Park, in collaboration with the Institute of Community Development, will offer fresh and prepared foods, and a variety of food trucks will be on hand to add to the array of menu choices.

Music runs from 4–8PM this season, as Jazz in the Park welcomes a select group of pre-opening acts to its stage. The full lineup is here.
