Weekends Shots!

This weekend is packed full of great shows and will be capped by an amazing Sunday filled with two great flea markets. How will you divvy up your time?

It’s funny how the Philadelphia concert scene seems to work; sometimes there are weekends where there are just one or two shows worth going to, and then there are weekends where there are ten different shows worth your time. This weekend happens to be the latter. Acts ranging from legendary rock legends to the latest in up-and-coming indie acts make their way to Philly this weekend.

Friday, December 7th | This year has been an incredibly great year for Black Moth Super Rainbow. For a band that was rejected by countless labels for their latest album, they solicited their fans’ support to assist with funding for their latest album, Cobra Juicy. Using Kickstarter, they not only met their goal for funding, but well surpassed it. Now they are taking their new record on the road to show off the new tunes. They are touring with Casket Girls (which is headed by an ex-Black Moth member) and one of the city’s best local acts Creepoid. The trio come to Union Transfer to kick off your weekend.

In the Fishtown/Kensington area, Brooklyn’s Guards come to Kung Fu Necktie with TEEN and Black Brick. Lastly, the monthly hipster dance party Making Times returns with their good buds Simian Mobile Disco and Philly’s best shoegaze act, Nothing.

Saturday, December 8th | Hopefully you got enough rest Friday night because there is even more going on Saturday night! To kick things off, the Smashing Pumpkins make up for their superstorm Sandy rescheduled date at the Susquehanna Bank Center. Joining them on stage will be Morning Parade.

One of rock’s pioneers’ The Who make their way to the Wells Fargo Center for a not-to-be-missed concert. Topping everything is the Japandroids returning to Philly to headline their biggest venue yet, Union Transfer. DIIV team up with them to deliver a concert featuring two bands with two of the year’s best albums.

Sunday, December 9th | Sundays are usually meant for relaxing. For a weekend full of awesome shows, what better way to wrap things with two great music-themed flea markets?

First up is the bi-annual Philly Record Riot. With tons of different vendors, it’s almost impossible to no find what you’re looking for. The fair will be held up in to Fishtown at 2424 Studios. The other is R5 Productions’ semi annual Punk Rock Flea Market. For just $3, you will be able to find anything from the quarkiest nick-nacks, to some of the best prints from local graphic designers, and everything in between. If you have never been before, it is a must-see event. If you have been before, then you don’t need to hear any of this.
