New Orleans hits Seattle via indie soul rockers, The Revivalists

Catch a double taste of recent Grammy winners, Rebirth Brass Band (Best Regional Roots Music Album) Friday and Saturday night at Tractor Tavern, where they bring along fellow New Orleanians, The Revivalists. The two bands have close ties and openly support each other back home as well as on the road.

For the last three decades, Rebirth has brought the second line sound to audiences nationwide, but got their start as members of a school marching band, at which point the lineup included trumpeter Kermit Ruffins. The band has held weekly gigs at Maple Leaf Bar in their hometown throughout the years, becoming a staple of the local brass scene.

In come the younger generation, The Revivalists, who won Best Emerging Band in New Orleans for 2011. Their new release City of Sound has just been serviced to college radio nationwide, where fellow hometown band, Galactic is already making waves. David Shaw, singer for The Revivalists, guest appears in Galactic’s “Hey Na Na,” which was recently performed on Conan O’Brien. New Orleans is taking over the music world with a vengeance!

With a pedal steel guitar and saxophone, adding more distinction with Shaw’s vocal performance, The Revivalists have been hard at work writing and performing in hundreds of cities in the last couple of years. I’ve been watching live footage of theirs online, which has an overwhelming amount of proof in the pudding. You should really see this for yourself.
