TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

Smack in the middle of summer I could think of no better weekend than this one to salute the grand rock ‘n roll tradition of the summer rock festival. Call it Fuck Yeah, Sziget, The Big Chill, Oya, Off, Hard or Roots Roadhouse—the fest season is on! Kids are mellowing out at Edmonton-folk, having a dance at Hardfest and bbm-ing Lollapalooza schedules

An interesting observation to note—many of the festivals have an “eclectic” playlist similar to an average week of… yes, The Idelic Hour. May I be so bold as to call this a “Coachella Cocktail??

Take five Pitchfork bands, Cass McCombs, Beirut, Ty Segall, Smith Westerns, and Black Lips. Add two electro bands, Ratatat and Digitalism. Splash one British, Vaccines, one Swedish, Dungen, and one hippie, My Morning Jacket. Then stir in one cool semi-retired band from early 2000’s, Death From Above, and one 80’s new wave re-union, The Cars. Float two shots of amazing hard punk, Descendents and Kid Dynamite and cap the whole thing off with a mind blowing festival super group, The Who. Then light the fucking thing up!

Viola! What do you get? Idelic “Festo 2011!”
