We’re delighted to debut today the title track from New York City-based songwriter Jason Brody’s current project At Sea, whose full-length debut, A New Machine lands on store shelves on September 25th, via CEN/RED.
“My grandparents had this big old flip-top wooden record player that was like a piece of furniture. Unfortunately at that time I had no real taste in music yet and the only albums we had were Sesame Street records (for little-kid me) and Dean Martin, showtunes, that sort of thing (for the oldsters).
But I distinctly remember how warm it all sounded, even when I didn’t really have much invested in what I was listening to. There was nothing like it. I love that there is this vinyl resurgence and that people are caring about it again at the same time that squashed, compressed-to-hell mp3s are the norm for listening to music.
You invest so much in the recording process, and yet so often now the end product, a 5mb digital speck, has no footprint and doesn’t do justice to the process behind it. I hope that more and more people fall in love with the substance and warmth that music recordings now lack.”
