TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

With loads of cool, new releases flooding the airwaves, this week one band stands alone; Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard—ZZ Top—that “lil ol’ band from Texas” mightily reign as rock ‘n roll’s longest running band consisting of all its original members.

While “the Top” continue to hit their stride 43 years on and counting, it’s a given these hombres “gotsta get paid.” (I mean, don’t we all?) It’s more than a valid point, and along with the inspiring Texans, both are this week’s Idelic Hour muse.

When I was young, I never needed much bread. Those days my flow came easy. Times are different now, and you could say a bit tougher, but one thing is true—scratching out a dollar (or a living) out of rock ‘n roll is the only option for many of us.

So, whether is those old cats like Billy, Dusty, Frank…Keith Morris, Pete Townsend, Mark Lanegan, Alice Cooper, or ol’ Bobby Zimmerman, or new kids on the block like Thee Oh Sees, Turbo Fruits, Fidlar, Natural Child, and Lana Del Rey, there is nothing like rocking out to get our hands on a dollar bill, y’all.

“Gotsta Get Paid.” Hear all about it on this week’s Idleic Hour.
