TVD Premiere:
Fiona Grey,
“Beauty Queen”

We met 19 year old singer/songwriter Fiona Grey in Washington, DC last Fall where she was holding down backing vocals for KITTEN on their swing through the States with Charli XCX.

Now, those of you familiar with Chloe and Co. know that’s no small feat, but the Chicago native whose 2013 EP “Striped Heart” found a sweet spot on LA radio last year is set to return upon her own considerable merits with the release of a brand new EP “Belladonna.” We’re delighted to debut the first track from the EP, “Beauty Queen.”

“I wrote “Beauty Queen” right after I got off the Kitten tour. When I got back to LA, all the things I had previously thought were normal about our culture seemed more extreme. It was a result of pop culture and society that I felt this constant need for perfection and excitement.

At the heart of the song are the things we yearn for or escape in: love, sex, drugs, and our own vanity. Writing this song for me was bringing in all of these hauntingly beautiful elements, and creating a fun pop song we can relate to in our own way.

I had a chance to go back to my hometown and work on this EP for 6 weeks in Chicago at Waterdog Studios with my producer Joshua “Cartier” Cutsinger. I wanted “Beauty Queen” to be the single as I felt like it captured the heart of the entire EP.

The EP is called “Belladonna;” it’s based on how the most beautiful things in the world tend to be the most lethal. Belladonnas have always been my favorite flower. I love the idea that their beauty contrasts with their danger as they are one of the most poisonous flowers.

I find that the most exciting and beautiful things in my life have the possibility of being the most dangerous. I wanted to write music about that, so I made this EP.” —Fiona Grey

Fiona Grey’s EP “Belladonna” arrives in stores this August followed by the video for “Beauty Queen” later in the month.
