Brother Hawk,
The TVD First Date
and Video Premiere,
“The Black Dog”

“I’ve made no secret of the fact that Neil Young is my all time favorite artist.”

“I’m an especially big fan of the Ditch Trilogy. Tonight’s The Night and On The Beach are two favorites in my family. My Dad turned us on to those records really early and we’ve always loved listening to them and playing those songs together. “Albuquerque,” “On The Beach,” and “Motion Pictures” were some of my favorites to play and sing with my Dad while he played harmonica. Those records played a huge part in my musical development and still influence the music we make now.

Some years later my brother JoJo bought me Time Fades Away on vinyl for Xmas and it was an instant favorite right up there with the others—I wore it the fuck out! It’s so genuine and raw, and that really comes through even more when you listen on vinyl. HAIL NEIL!”
J.B. Brisendine, guitar,vocals

“My brother and I had been following Radiohead since they came out with their first album Pablo Honey, and we loved The Bends as well. But, once OK Computer came out I was completely obsessed with them.”

“I couldn’t get over the harmonic language and sounds they came up with on that album. We would scrounge around to find any videos of them playing live that we could. I quickly became a huge fan of Jonny Greenwood in particular, his background as a classical musician, and how he fit his unusual solos, synths, and piano playing into their sound.

That album changed how I listened to music and helped shape what I wanted to hear when I created music. I’ve been a fan of all of their albums since then as well. I have the In Rainbows limited edition vinyl box set and I love flipping through all the artwork while jamming it. A Moon Shaped Pool has become one of my favorites of theirs as well and the gatefold copy I have of it is also really beautifully done.”
Nick Johns-Cooper, keys/vocals

“As a young skateboarder my go to music was grunge and metal. I famously got in trouble in elementary school for wearing metal shirts my teachers deemed inappropriate. It was an older skater that I got some of those shirts from—we were constantly trading things since we didn’t have money.”

“One day he gave me a mix tape that had Misfits, Side by Side, Inside Out, and Minor Threat on it among others. I was hooked. I loved how simple and in your face it was. The DIY ethic of it and the fact that you could have a punk show just about anywhere really appealed to me. It was this type of stuff that I immediately started trying to play on the guitar when I began learning, for better or worse.

I started to collect records when I started going to shows when I was around 14 or 15. Some are more important than others for different reasons, but my favorite record is probably the Minor Threat “In My Eyes” 7”. I got it from a guy claiming to be Jeff Nelson’s roommate. Among the things he was selling was some original Minor Threat artwork, a Teen Idles test press and more amazing stuff. I got the “In My Eyes” 7” on red vinyl.

Like, if there was a fire and I could only grab a couple from the collection, this is definitely it.”
James Fedigan, bass

“My favorite record of all time has to be The Cult’s Love … a sonic masterpiece.”

“The Cult is the first band I started listening to when I was younger that really started to transition me out of extreme heavy metal bands. I heard this record for the first time about 12 years ago and it threw me down the goth rock rabbit hole, soon leading me to other bands like Fields Of The Nephilim, Type O Negative, The Cure, etc. Hearing Love on vinyl is a whole new experience.

You really hear the guitar tones breathe and Mark Brzezicki’s drums are absolutely crushing. “Big Neon Glitter” has to be my favorite drum track on the album.”
Evan Diprima, drums

“The Black Dog”—one heavy, swaggering blast of soulful, syncopated groove—is the lead-off single from Brother Hawk’s new live EP, “Big Trouble Sessions” which arrives in stores tomorrow, November 8, 2019 on all streaming platforms.
