Jon Sidel is on vacation today and will return next week with an all new Idelic Hour. Today’s “Best of” originally aired on 1/4/13. —Ed.
Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
Alas, 2013 has come. To be honest, I was having weird dreams and sleeplessness the final 2 nights of 2012. As per my “Idelic” norm, I drew comfort from ’60s classics. First I reached for the Doors, then The Velvets, and then a listen to Van Morison’s spellbinding Astral Weeks.
“If I ventured in the slipstream/ Between the viaducts of your dream/ Where immobile steel rims crack/ And the ditch in the back roads stop/ Could you find me?/ Would you kiss-a my eyes?/ To lay me down/ In silence easy/ To be born again…”
Yes, “to be born again.” That’s what the new year is all about. A clean palette to work from. Our millennium is 13. Hmmmm…13! As far as I’m concerned, that’s where the action starts. It’s certainly better then 12 was, so let us “venture in the slipstream.”
Have pleasant dreams, and rock on…
