Who the hell are
The Narrows?

The Narrows are from Manchester, England and they are: Phil (Vocals/ Keys), Adam (Guitars/Keys/ Programming) and Dave (Guitars/Keys). They make dark futuristic electro rock with pop sensibilities and their songs are about guilt, paranoia and conspiracies. At least, that’s what they say…

Tell us about your track/video ‘Able Danger’
It’s three and a half minutes of electro rock aggression filled with twists, turns, tempo and time signature changes and processed vocals (NOT autotune!). It was written one sunny afternoon in the countryside but to hear it would have you believe it was written in a cave. The video was based on a concept by Phil; then he fine tuned the idea with Will Robinson who directed it and Andrew Connor who was the editor. We wanted a video which had a high production values but cost next to nothing as we have no financial backing apart from what’s in our pockets. We have a lot of very talented friends who are willing to help us out for nothing – the actors, extras, make up, director and editor all worked very hard for gratis.

Who has influenced your music the most?
We listen to lots of different types of music. I could write several essays on what inspires us but in this case, I’ll write you a paragraph on what I’m listening to at the moment and some perennial favourites. so, in no particular order we’re inspired by – Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Queens of the Stone Age, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Shadow, Bernard Hermann, John Barry, Bjork, Radiohead, PVT, Ennio Morricone, Portishead, The Stooges, Scott Walker, Led Zeppelin, Kanye West and hundreds upon hundreds more.

Where can folks catch you live?
Our next gig is on October 21st and is a fundraiser for PIAS. We’ll also be appearing at Oxjam in Sheffield on October 22nd. We’re tarts but we do have hearts.

Name one thing no one knows about the band?
We all have an affinity for the “Grease” soundtrack – it’s badass and quite rude. Yep, we’re that cool. You can keep “Grease 2” though, that one is awful.

Where do you expect/hope to be in one years time?
I hope we’re still together and we’re all still alive. If this past year is anything to go by, we hope to have played more major festivals (we played T in the Park this summer), released our debut album, be touring regularly and maybe quit the day jobs – the last one is a particularly tall order in this day and age but one can dream.

Give me one sentence that sums up the band or your music.
There is something of the night about the Narrows.
