Diggin’ In The Crates:
Sparks & Chantal Kelly

‘Diggin’ In The Crates’ is brought to you by Ben Lewis, designer and record obsessive from Brighton. Ben can usually be found in a dusty corner of one of the countries many second-hand record emporiums, rooting around in search of rarities and hidden gems.

First up this week is Sparks, “Fletcher Honorama.”

In 1971, when Sparks were still Halfnelson, LA college band anglophiles, they were thrown a lifeline by Todd Rundgren, who, in addition to producing their debut LP, certainly encouraged their eccentricities.

Chantal Kelly, “Attention, Coeur Fragile”

Attention! Coeur fragile! Stomping bit of ’60s Ye Ye. Is this still Ye Ye? Anyone know? Through a short recording career, Chantal Kelly never quite scaled the iconic heights of France Gall or Francoise Hardy, but this, from one of her 5 EP’s, is a superb piece of Gallic pop.
