Mairearad Green,
The TVD First Date

“I have the Little Feat, Dixie Chicken vinyl cover framed on the wall in my living room. Not only is it a great album, the cover is a great piece of art. I have to admit I am drawn to it mainly as there’s an accordion on the front!”

I love that my parents are really into antiques and our house if full of interesting things, including lots of old books and a great record collection. My first memory of vinyl though is sadly only managing to play one song (I think it was my Dad’s favourite Bob Dylan, “Blowing in the Wind”) and then the player broke shortly after. I think I will need at least a spare month to get their collection out of the attic and go through them all—it will be an exciting month and well spent.

Having inherited the same antique bug as my parents, I do find shopping for vinyl so much more fun than shopping for CDs or clicking to download a track online. The more space to the cover usually makes for more interesting designs. I find it really exciting when artists pay as much attention to the artwork side as the music, especially in the days of digital download when it’s become not so important.

After all this chat of shopping for vinyl, generally preferring them to CDs etc., and even framing them on my wall, I am ashamed to admit that I don’t have a record player at the moment—one day when I have a bigger house! I had a great night round at a pa’ls house recently just listening to old vinyl, discovering bands I’d never heard before.

The quality of sound is so special and I’ve been inspired to get a player ever since (I will just have to make some space in my flat). I also plan to release a limited edition vinyl of Summer Isles. Maybe the cover will be Little Feat inspired!”
