TVD Ticket Giveaway: Cowboy Mouth at the 9:30 Club, 1/26

Alright ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got a really awesome giveaway this week. New Orleans rock outfit Cowboy Mouth is coming to the 9:30 Club on Thursday (1/26) and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give to one lucky winner. Go ahead and grab those stetsons and boots with the spurs so you can dance your way out of them at the show!

Hailing from the salty marshes of New Orleans, Cowboy Mouth has been bringing the sounds of the Bayou and classic Southern rock ‘n’ roll since the early ’90s. In 2011, the raucous rebel rousers released their 10th studio album aptly titled Mardi Gras and are now on tour making stops in select states all over the U.S. to bring you their tunes and a damn good party.

Cake Magazine once described the Cowboy Mouth experience as “…on a bad night they’ll tear the roof off the joint and on a good night, they’ll save your soul.”

That sounds about right.

Now’s your chance to get saved or go down in a blaze of glory. If you want to win this awesome giveaway just tell us an album or song that has saved your soul. If you need some help deciding, just have a listen to Don McLean’s “American Pie,” and maybe it will all come back to you.

The winner will be chosen Wednesday (1/25) at noon, so get on it! Good luck!

“Here Comes the Sun”, by the greatest band ever. It saves my soul annually.

“Brazil Classics 1: Beleza Tropical” — compiled by David Byrne. The exotic sounds and rich harmonies opened up a whole new musical universe to me — and found me searching for their works in local, indie shops on Record Store Day and attending shows at Lisner Auditorium and The Birchmere by these foreign-yet-somehow-familiar troubadours. I found the Dylan of Minas Gerais in Milton Nascimento.

Honestly, I’m totally not sucking up when I say “Word of Mouth” by Cowboy Mouth. I picked it up at a Bookman’s (used books and music) in Phoenix, Arizona after I saw them open for Hootie and the Blowfish in 1995. The copy I have is not listed in their discography, so I’m not sure exactly where it came from (although all the inserts lead me to believe it’s on the up and up) but that is ALWAYS my go to album for ANYTHING.

The Avenue by none other then Cowboy Mouth I have just discovered them with in the last 3 years and the unique sound and passion in the music is what i love

  • Meddy

    Its “I Believe”.

The album that saved me is “Are You With Me?” by Cowboy Mouth. I learned about Cowboy Mouth serendipitously when they opened for the Barenaked Ladies many many moons ago. That was the first of their albums which I purchased and it has changed my life over the years in many ways – friends, travels, love. They’ve been with me through many good and tough times.

When I’m feeling down, the two songs that always bring me back are Easy and I Believe! They always make me realize that life is not as bad as I think it is! And that I can get through anything. Been listening to CM since 1994 when I was a Freshman at Tulane — and I have seen them around the country (Houston, LA, NYC, and now DC)! Can’t wait for Thursday!

I have been a fan of Cowboy Mouth for many years now. I love the energy they bring at their shows. You can be having a really tough day and after you leave you are feeling so much energy nothing can bring you down! The song that has essentially “saved my soul” is Jenny Says. Every time I have someone telling me something I don’t want to hear – this song just reminds me to Let it Go! I don’t have to care what anyone else thinks, just go with my instincts and let it all go!

“…stetsons and boots with the spurs?” Do you know anything about this band????? Coupled with the outdated band photo (that lineup changed more than a year and a half ago) , I’d hafta say, NO…..

  • JC

…. and the text in the promo picture says the date is”1/16″….. C’mon, Man!!!

  • Meddy

Hey JC – are you JC from DC??? 🙂

    • JC

      Negative…. Chicago area….

  • poconopam

I agree with JC – does the person who wrote this copy know anything about CM?? No stetsons, no boot with spurs – watch the videos you post! And post a picture that represents the current band!! If you do go, bring your red plastic spoons….if you know CM you know what this means, if you don’t….well, you’ll see!

  • Jeepbeater

Take Me Back to New Orleans.

I agree with the other posters: boots and spurs? Maybe they should take a show in and get their soul in check.

  • Mike0376

There are several Cowboy Mouth songs that have “saved my soul”. “Let It Go” is what I would go with. It is a high energy song that allows one to take their mind off their problems for a few minutes.

  • Brian Urrutia

The late Hawaiian singer, Israel “IZ” Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole, recorded a medley of “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World.” If your soul needs some nurturing, listen to that for ~5min of peace whenever you need it. With regards to Cowboy Mouth, it’s hard to top shouting “Let it go!” when they close the show with Jenny Says. Good times! Always. Are you with me?

  • Nigra

    Jeff Buckley’s Grace.

  • McGivneyD

I don’t know if it saved my soul, but Disintegration by the Cure is the only thing that kept me sane during puberty. Well, that and a healthy dose of masturbation.
