TVD Live Shots: Jane’s Addiction with TAB at the 9:30 Club, 12/28

Alt-rock pioneers Jane’s Addiction, stopped by DC on Friday, December 28th to play a sold-out show at the 9:30 Club. The band’s current line-up features original members Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and bassist, Chris Chaney. This was the first of three dates on the east coast in advance of shows in New York City and Atlantic City forNew Years Eve.

The setlist included a few songs such as “Underground,” from their most current release, The Great Escape Artist, as well as older favorites like “Just Because,” “Been Caught Stealing,” and “Jane Says.” It was a packed house, and the crowd was a mixture of fans from different generations.

I also had a few minutes to sit down with brothers Tony and Adrian Perry, Ben Tileston, and Lou Jannetty of Boston’s TAB before their set. This opening slot for Jane’s was the bands first time playing at the 9:30 club. The four have been friends since childhood, but it wasn’t until 2007 that TAB was formed. They spent most of 2012 recording their fourth album, and found time to fit in a handful of one-off gigs all over the US and Canada.

Adventures from the Canadian run include shows in Newfoundland, kissing a salmon, and trying Screech (a local rum). The highlight of TAB’s year however, was finishing the new record. Keep your eyes out for a video and single, coming sometime in the beginning of the year before their album release. We look forward to catching their bad-ass bluesy-rock selves down here in DC sometime next year!
