TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

I’m not sure if the Idelic Hour has ever fallen on April Fools Day. Although I’m not much of a practical joker, I dig what’s it like to play, know, or feel like the fool. I sure have seen my share of fools strolling around this town.

Back in my garage flipping through crates, I was not surprised to have gathered quite a stack of oldies, and days before thinking about a final playlist for this week’s Idelic Hour. Indeed, “the giants” prevailed. Sinatra, Elvis, Aretha, The Stones, Etta, Ike & Tina, and Muddy all have fucking amazing appetites for songs about fools.

I have to say that Ike and Tina are the “king and queen” of foolish song. I can almost hear old Ike calling me out, “Yo fool, Sidel—you got my song on your jukebox?!”

Those “poor little,” let ’em stroll, rush in, cry, or chain…

My favorite song about a fool likely goes to Candi Staton. I love it when a woman sings the blues about being foolish over a man. Now that is rock ‘n’ roll!

…You may think / I’m silly / To love a man twice my age / But I know from experience, girls / Sometime it pays / The man I’ve got / The fire’s almost gone / He can’t heat up nobody’s house / He’s got just enough to keep me warm / I’d rather be an old man’s sweetheart / Than to be a young man’s fool / Oh, yeah…

Who do you think you’re ffff….???? Enjoy!
