Beyond Beyond is Beyond Week: Disc 3

Well, the Beyond Beyond is Beyond psych compilation release date is upon us! Warm up those headphones and grab the whole epic thing over at Bang Bang Boogaloo.

And our buddy and artist, Justin Gabbard, has some limited-edition (only 25 hand-numbered) posters of the amazing cover art for sale over at his webstore, for those of you who having been asking about it.

As I put this comp together I found myself wondering how it would’ve played out if it had been pressed to vinyl. So let’s get back to our hypothetical triple-disc Beyond Beyond is Beyond compilation album.

This is disc 3 and it is the final side. Side B of the third disc would be blank, kind of like Johnny Winter’s Second Winter double-vinyl LP! So let’s dig in…

Since the release of Jeffertitti’s Nile’s Hypnotic River of Sound EP, the band has been kept busy on the road with invitations from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Entrance Band, Lumerians, Wooden Shjips, Howlin’ Rain, Lightning in a Bottle Festival, Escalator Fest, Frisco Freakout III, among other festivals. Subsequently, Relix Magazine, Tom Tom, OC Weekly, LA Record, L’Officiel (France), and Doingbird (Australia) have all taken notice of the sonic vibration of Jeffertitti’s Nile. Dig this killer live track, “Sleep Tonight”, exclusive to this compilation…

The Zabalas is a collaboration of Argentinian singer Flor Zabala and New York producer David Pattillo. After a chance meeting at a Wanda Jackson revival show in April 2011, the two began recording and exploring the musical worlds of late 70′s NY punk, and 60’s psychedelia in Pattillo’s NYC studio. Flor’s vocals have been compared to Patti Smith, Lene Lovich, and PJ Harvey. Pattillo’s guitar ranges from crunchy bluesy riffs to dreamy beds of feedback. He is also known for fronting The Dead Exs a garage blues duo. The Zabalas 6 song EP is slated for release in February 2012.

Combining influences from worldwide underground psychedelia (German, Japanese, Brazilian, Turkish, African) as well as traditional devotional music and American rock & roll, Portland, Maine’s Herbcraft utilizes a philosophy of improvisation and repetition in an attempt to attain higher and heavier musical vibrations. Their first record, Herbcraft Discovers the Bitter Water of Agartha, was released in June 2010 to general acclaim, and was quickly followed up earlier this summer with the Ashram to the Stars LP, both released by Woodsist sister-label Hello Sunshine. In its short existence, the band has shared stages with Woods, MV & EE, Barn Owl, Ducktails, Spectre Folk, Kuupuu, Big Troubles, Plankton Wat, and many others. They are currently at work on recording their third LP.
