Milkboy set to celebrate 3-year anniversary in a big way

Starting Thursday, the Center City coffee shop/ restaurant/ music venue will unleash a trio of shows in honor of its birthday. And the best part? Each one is free!

It’s hard to believe that it’s only been 3 years since Milkboy first opened its doors at 11th and Chestnut. Already, the trio of Tommy Joyner, Jamie Lokoff, and Bill Hansen have managed to fit themselves right into the concert landscape in Philadelphia and in doing so, have made their venue seem like it’s been around for much longer than it has. To commemorate their monumental milestone, Milkboy will be featuring 3 nights of free concerts featuring some of the best local talent the city has to offer!

Wasting no time and not even waiting for the weekend to hit, Milkboy kicks the festivities off Thursday (8/14) with a headlining performance from one of Philly’s most unique hip-hop acts, Black Landord. Joining them will be ILL Doots and Thee, Idea Men. The following night (8/15) The Ataris take the stage along with one of the city’s best up-and-coming indie bands, Cheerleader. Alright Junior and Strap round out the lineup. Saturday night (8/16) looks to be the end all, be all with a monster bill that includes The Lawsuits, Mo Lowda & the Humble, and Our Griffins.

And did I mention that every night is free? Just be sure to arrive early each night because there are no advance tickets for any of the shows. It’s first come, first serve at the door and their capacity isn’t the largest. You can find out all the information on each night’s show’s here.

Where most venues around the city just offer live music and entertainment, and some take it up a notch by offering a full restaurant and bar for guests to dine, Milkboy pushes things to the next level by offering patrons even more.

Open at 7AM Monday through Friday, they offer breakfast and coffee in the morning, lunch in the afternoon, dinner, and boozy yet delicious drinks at night. And this is on top of the number of shows scheduled throughout each week. On the weekends they also dish out one of the tastiest brunches you’ll find in Center City.

Along with celebrating the 3-year anniversary of their music venue, Joyner and Lokoff are honoring another major milestone in their lives—the 20th year anniversary of Milkboy the Studio. It was through this recording space, that Joyner and Lokoff rose into the heights of the Philadelphia music scene. It’s also where they came up with the name of their music venue (in case you couldn’t tell).

With an already impressive history behind them, the sky’s the limit for Milkboy. As the music scene around the city continues to grow, they look to continue being not just a vital stage for local bands to play, but an in demand venue for bigger, nationally touring acts as well.

One thing’s for certain, the series of free events happening this weekend at 11th and Chestnut are ones you do not want to miss!
