TVD Vinyl Giveaway:
Civil Twilight, Holy Weather

It isn’t too often you come across a trio of South African musicians that make some pretty kickass rock music like Civil Twilight. In fact, I don’t personally listen to any other South African bands. (No offense, South Africa.) Do you?

If you’re not already familiar with Civil Twilight, lucky for you, we’ve got a way to expand your musical repertoire with a vinyl giveaway of the band’s latest album, Holy Weather, on clear vinyl.

Having only been released last March, Holy Weather has already appeared as the #1 Billboard New Artists Alternative Album Chart and #3 on the Heatseekers Chart. Pretty impressive. They have also been featured heavily in press lately, including Entertainment Weekly, MTV Buzzworthy, ArtistDirect, Alternative Addiction, The Audio Perv, Alternative Press, and AOL Spinner.

To catch up on the craze, you can catch them on tour, including their show tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel in DC. They’ll also be hitting the road soon with MuteMath.

If you want a chance to win the prize, tell us in the comments below, your favorite non-American band. Be creative with this one!

To be really obscure here, there’s a band from the island of Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas called The Gully Roosters that I listen to on a weekly basis.

A winner with a North American mailing address will be chosen next Friday, August 10th.

A recent favorite non-American band is Lowlakes. The band hails from Australia. They just have an EP out but are doing some awesome stuff musically. Definitely worth checking out.

    Pulp!

    Os Mutantes

How to choose! Ummm my latest find has been, “One EskimO” from London, Uk. Very chill music with an awesome duo singing lead 🙂

  • Tarah

    Civil Twilight of course!!

  • Mary0901

Apart from Civil Twilight, my favorite new band is called “Wolf Gang”. They come from London (UK) and their music is very fresh, fun and have some great catchy tunes! The lyrics and the theme of their first album is a lot about imagination and a fictive place called “Suego Faults”. They already supported Coldplay for their American leg.

I would have to say Subscribe from Hungary is my favorite non-American band. They play an eclectic mix of rock/hardcore/metal/jazz and somehow make it sound good.

Civil Twilight is among my favorites. I also really LOVE the band H.I.M. from Finland. They have awesome songs that include great lyrics and meaningful sound. They really know how to rock an American crowd!

http://www.hermitagegreen.com/I am absolutely in love with an Irish band called Hermitage Green. They are fantastic and have both acoustic covers and original songs.

Civil Twilight is really awesome.  I love the last album.  There is a band that I remember seeing a video for when I was in Germany in 2005.  I liked it so much that I went to the music store right away and bought their CD.  I never heard of them before, and even though they sing in German, I still loved the music.  The band is Ich + Ich.  They sure are obscure here in the U.S.  I will go out and get this record, even if I don’t win this contest.  Thanks Civil Twilight for being so cool.

I mean M83 is pretty much the ishhh. (besides Civil Twilight of course).Everytime I hear their music I am immediately happy. They aren’t super obscure or anything though, just super awesome.

I have to admit these guys are my favorite non-American band but that
is NOT creative so I’m going to say City & Colour who hail from St.
Catherines, Ontario, Canada, but a close second goes to You Me At Six
    from Surrey, UK

If there were ever a band that I would be honored enough to let create a soundtrack to my life it would undoubtably be Sigur Ros. Their music is more than just sounds, it’s more than just lyrics; their music encapsulates beauty, whether it be the beauty found in the heights of life or the beauty found in the depths of dispair, whether it be the beauty found in the disquieted and lost soul or the beauty found in the hope of the adventuring spirit. It doesn’t matter if they are singing in icelandic or in hopelandish, it doesn’t matter if you can understand the lyrics or not, what matters is how the listener is tied up with their art, their heart beating with the music, their heart beating as the music.

Civil Twilight is one of my 2 favorite realativly new non-American bands, the other being The Boxer Rebellion. It a so refreshing to hear such heartfelt music coming from different parts of the world! Steven, Andrew, and Richard have the talent to give Coldplay a run for their money, and I’m sure there has to be at least an A- Hollywood actress willing to marry Steven and have biblical and produce influenced named children with him. This will be the second tour I am following and hope for many, many more!
    Carry On Sirs!

Besides Civil Twilight of course, Avalanche City is a splendid band from Auckland, New Zealand. Their blissful folk melodies soothe me all day.

Well BESIDES Civil Twilight…..Celtic Thunder is my favorite non-american band.  I love their remakes of other songs with their own twist along with their songs they have written.  I love celtic music!!
