TVD Video Premiere:
Sam Morrow, “Old Soul”

Sam Morrow digs deep and strikes gold on debut album.

We have the pleasure of premiering the live video for “Old Soul” from Sam’s debut album Ephemeral. The song has a slow burning quality that conjures up Wilco’s “Ashes of American Flags,” heightened by its unnervingly real first person plight. Whereas some pen about pain from a distant perch, Sam walked through the darkness and survived to see the dawn.

Morrow states: “As I fought through my addiction, music was an unshakable constant. It was there in the depths, it carried me in the chaos, and when I sobered up, it offered me redemption. Thus, I wanted to make a record full of contradictions, constants, and loss, to reflect the lives we all live.” For the video’s arrangement of “Old Soul” Morrow told us, “We reimagined this rendition a bit different from the record. Added a solo and changed the vibe a bit. The lyrical content is sad, so to have the band swing and rock a little more is a nice contrast.”

The soul scraping 10 song set was produced and engineered by Eric Corne (John Mayall, DeVotchKa, KaiL Baxley). After years of wrestling with addiction and purpose, Morrow has emerged with an emotive collection of bluesy folk rock that milks his experience for the wisdom it has bestowed.

Sam Morrow’s debut release, Ephemeral is on store shelves now via Sony/ RED Distribution and MRI. “Old Soul” is a part of a 4-song live EP, “The Seahorse Sessions” available on March 17 via NoiseTrade.
