TVD Premiere: Shannen Nicole, “She Knows It”

Seventeen year old Shannen Nicole’s nuanced delivery belies her age on debut single “She Knows It.”

We have the pleasure of premiering the Oregonean’s exclusive single—a descending, piano driven lament that echoes the bluesy pop of Nora Jones while conjuring the angular, alternative angst of Fiona Apple’s early work.

The high schooler’s debut album, Captive was recorded semi-off-the-cuff at Flora Recording in Portland, Oregon with producer Michael Finn. The sessions were stuffed between Nicole’s finals and preparing to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts to pursue performance studies.

The resulting recordings speak volumes about the young singer-songwriter’s potential, with the majority of the tracks rolling off like a label-assisted debut. Captive will see its official release on July 7.
