The National Parks,
The TVD First Date and Premiere, “At The Heart”

“When I was pretty young my family moved to San Diego from Reno and there was a really different energy between the mountains of Lake Tahoe and the beaches of Southern California. Everything felt new.”

“It was at this point in my life that I started discovering music for myself and was my first time in a record store. My older brother took me and I don’t remember the name of the store but for some reason I do remember we drove in his red convertible bug. When we got there I was blown away by the sheer number of albums—just shelves and shelves filled with records.

I didn’t know much about bands yet so I was mostly fascinated with the album artwork. Being surrounded by that much art and music was really inspiring and even though I was only 5 or 6, I remember feeling a strong pull to be a part of it.

I wrote ‘At The Heart’ during a process of reflecting on some of the most impactful relationships in my life. I walked through those relationships from beginning to the end, thinking about the good times and ultimately the ending.

Some of the memories were painful to think about and I kept coming back to the idea that even though those relationships didn’t work out, they were still incredibly meaningful and those people helped shape me into who I am today.”

“At The Heart” appears on The National Parks’ upcoming full length release Places, in stores September 2017.
