With a mix of infectious energy and intimate moments, he transformed the iconic venue into a playground for his genre-defying sound.

He moved effortlessly between crowd favorites like “Candle,” “Stacy,” “Kings of Summer,” and encore “Straightjacket,” blending upbeat anthems with more introspective tracks.

With humor as sharp as his hooks, Quinn XCII joked between songs that Dua Lipa was performing across town at the Kia Forum that same night, thanking his loyal crowd for picking his stage instead.

TVD Live Shots: Ohana Festival 2025, 9/28

DANA POINT, CA | The final day of Ohana Fest 2025 had arrived, promising relentless energy, a lineup stacked with punk’s most electrifying acts, and a surprise performance yet to come. With 15,000 attendees seemingly making a silent vow to leave nothing in the tank, day 3 was kicked into high gear.

1:30PM: Bright, bold, and unapologetically loud, Lambrini Girls brought a jolt of energy to the shores of Doheny Beach. Hailing from Brighton, the trio wasted no time commanding the stage—a whirlwind of snarling guitar riffs, raw vocals, and riot girl attitude that instantly woke up the mid-afternoon crowd. Lambrini Girls didn’t just play Ohana Fest—they shook it up.

2:00PM: The Chats stormed the Tiki Stage with the kind of reckless Aussie energy that can turn any crowd into a mosh pit by the second song. Introduced by Eddie Vedder who shared his long-time admiration for the group—“I’ll tell you, for three, four years I’ve been trying to get this next group up on this stage…”—the anticipation was already high before they even plugged in.

Known for their fast-paced punk anthems and deadpan humor (“I will say, it’s reckless endangerment to put a ginger in the sun like this” lead singer Eamon Sandwith quipped), the group tore through their set with grins as wide as their riffs were loud, delivering pure, sweat-soaked chaos from start to finish.

An Aussie myself, I was curious to dig deeper into their sound and history—only to discover the trio and I had attended the same high school. A small coastal campus half a world away, it turns out the soundtrack to my old stomping grounds was here, shaking the sand at Ohana.

2:40PM: Unleashing a set full of power, English punk rock band High Vis held the crowd in the palm of their hand. As lead singer Graham Sayle punched the air and brought passion to every word, the band fused gritty, hard-hitting riffs with melodic hooks, creating a sound that was as urgent as it was infectious.

3:25PM: Next up: Amanda Reckonwith… Or, so we thought.

TVD Live Shots: Ohana Festival 2025, 9/27

DANA POINT, CA | Day 2 of Ohana Fest 2025 is underway! The sun is out in full force, beach towels have been laid out, and the vibes are pure California—warm, carefree, and buzzing with anticipation for another day of incredible music by the sea.

1:35PM: Perhaps best known as an actor for his award-winning work on The X-Files, David Duchovny proved he’s just as captivating behind a microphone as he is on screen. Delivering a soulful, introspective set that blended rock, folk, and wit, he reminded fans that storytelling is his calling—no matter the medium. Wearing a leaf necklace and a relaxed grin, Duchovny radiated the easy confidence of someone doing exactly what they love.

2PM: Next up to the stage: Mon Rovîa. Captivating the audience with his laid-back style and ukulele, he delivered a breezy set that effortlessly matched the festival’s coastal energy. Fusing West African rhythms with gentle folk-pop, the rising star has created a distinctive sound that pays homage to his heritage and had the Ohana Fest crowd moving in unison from the first chord to the last.

2:35PM: Known for his electrifying performances, Nigerian musician Mdou Moctar was next up to the spotlight. Singing primarily in his native language Tamasheq, despite not understanding his lyrics due to a language barrier, Mdou Moctar’s performance was proof that music transcends words. His hypnotic guitar riffs and infectious energy spoke a universal language—one of passion, rhythm, and pure connection.

3:15PM: While I’d guess most of the crowd was local—“This is my usual surf spot, crazy to see it like this!” one older gentleman told me in-between sets—many attending had traveled from out of state. “This is my chance to enjoy the beach, good vibes, and good music,” one out of state visitor gushed.

TVD Live Shots: Ohana Festival 2025, 9/26

DANA POINT, CA | Gracing the shores of Doheny Beach, Ohana Festival came alive for three days of legendary performances, sun-soaked vibes, and a community united by music—proving that at its heart, “Ohana” truly means family.

Founded by Eddie Vedder, the Pearl Jam singer would frequent the stage over the coming days with a familiarity that made the festival feel like a homecoming. “This is our ninth year!” he exclaimed. “The fact that we have three days of beautiful weather ahead of us and apparently a swell coming in on Saturday, Sunday, Monday—lose your minds!”

Attracting 15 thousand attendees a day, the all-ages crowd spanned self-proclaimed beach bums to punk fans to children getting their first taste of live music and everything in between. A truly unique experience, I can confidently say I’ve never heard the words “good vibes” said so much at a music festival, nor have I witnessed such an intensely positive atmosphere and “look out for your neighbor: approach.

2:15PM: Hitting the stage five minutes past schedule, all female rock band Hinds wasted no time firing up the crowd. “I hope you don’t remember us as being late—I hope you remember us as being the best! We came here all the way from Spain and only have a 30 minute set—so let’s go!”

Playing original songs as well as a cover of “Girl, So Confusing” by Charlie XCX, the four-piece lit up the afternoon crowd with their signature garage-rock energy and playful banter.

2:45PM: Introduced as a “living legend” by none other than Eddie Vedder himself, Kim Deal—original bassist and co-vocalist in The Pixies as well as front woman of The Breeders—delivered a set full of nostalgia and seasoned skill.

3:35PM: Next up to the Tiki Stage: Welsh rock band Stereophonics—again, introduced by Vedder. Making note of their beginnings “playing Pearl Jam covers in the pub,” the group reflected on their journey before launching into a high-energy performance that proved just how far they’ve come.

TVD Live Shots:
The Fray at the
Wiltern, 8/23

“This was the first CD I ever owned!” one concertgoer gushed with wide-eyed excitement as The Fray delivered a set steeped in nostalgia at The Wiltern.

On the first of two nights in Los Angeles on their “How to Save a Life: The 20th Anniversary Tour,” from the first shimmering chords of “She Is” to the triumphant encore, the Denver band reminded fans why their songs have soundtracked so many pivotal moments over the last two decades. Celebrating their greatest hits and guiding the crowd through a carefully curated musical journey, this performance felt like a heartfelt gift to the fans who have supported them since their beginnings in 2002.

Even as a casual listener over the years, it wasn’t until I stood in the crowd that I truly understood the depth of The Fray’s catalog of iconic songs. Each song felt instantly recognizable yet somehow fresh, from the soaring choruses of “Over My Head (Cable Car)” to the hauntingly tender notes of “Fall Away” to personal favorite “You Found Me,” all of which had the sold out crowd—myself included—belting along as if the songs had never left us.

Singing the first bellowing notes of “Look After You,” lead singer Isaac Slade paused to invite special guest and opening act Landon Barker to the stage. Son of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, it was clear Landon was no stranger to the spotlight as he strode back and forth, matching Slade’s unwavering emotion. Garnering hundreds of millions of views on TikTok for lip syncing to The Fray’s iconic tracks, this was a full-circle moment that allowed the 20-year-old song to bridge generations, connecting the band’s longtime fans with a younger audience in a shared celebration of music.

A dazzling fusion of theatrical flair and musical talent, Spencer Sutherland’s performance at The Belasco made every inch of the venue feel alive. One of the final shows of his aptly named “The Drama Tour,” the singer, songwriter, and actor defined what it means to exude star power.

Kicking, strutting, and pouring every ounce of energy into his performance, Sutherland—clad in a sequined jumpsuit that only he could so effortlessly pull off—commanded the stage with a presence that was impossible to ignore.

The setlist, a dynamic mix of hits and deep cuts, showcased his range not only as a vocalist but as a storyteller. Highlights included a rousing rendition of “Everybody” and an emotionally charged performance of “Chicken Little,” leaving the crowd breathless as they tried to match with the singer’s boundless energy.

Just before belting a climactic high note in “Modern Heartbreak,” Sutherland paused dramatically, grinning as he told the crowd, “It’s to build drama”—a fitting nod to the theme that pulsed through every beat of the night. That same energy carried over when he welcomed Luke Spiller of The Struts to the stage, and together, the powerhouse vocalists tore through a fiery duet of “Don’t Stop Me Now,” transforming the venue into a full-blown rock opera. Their voices, attitude, and shared theatricality made for one of the night’s most unforgettable moments.

TVD Live Shots:
Role Model at the Wiltern, 4/1 & 4/2

Banter, barking, and a genuine venue-shaking performance, Role Model (Tucker Pillsbury) captivated crowds with two electrifying, sold-out shows at The Wiltern.

Self-releasing his debut EP in 2017 after recording it in his closet, the 27 year old artist quickly gained a dedicated online following. Combining honest storytelling with catchy melodies, his infectious energy and laid back persona has made him a standout in the indie pop scene.

A couple of tunes into his 19 song set, Pillsbury paused to connect with the buzzing crowd, admitting that while he cherished his time on the international leg of his “No Place Like Tour,” he missed the unmatched energy of US audiences. Rising to the occasion, the crowd erupted into cheers, barking, and nonstop noise between every song, ensuring the atmosphere remained rowdy from start to finish.

That energy wasn’t just heard—it was felt. If it hadn’t been for the sheer intensity of the moment and the lack of concern from fellow attendees, I legitimately would’ve thought there was an earthquake as the balcony shook beneath the weight of the crowd’s movement. My brief concern quickly faded as the singer-songwriter danced across the stage, grinning from ear to ear as the crowd’s excitement only continued to reach new heights.
