Laura Levine: Musicians and more

Back in May, I brought you news of a wonderful looking punk and new wave art show opening at Steven Kasher Gallery in July (July 21 thru August 19) – Rude and Reckless: Punk/Post Punk Graphics 1976-82. Well, we’re in for a real treat because now, in conjunction with this show, the gallery will be also be presenting at the same time Laura Levine: Musicians.

Laura’s work is up there on the upper tier of music photographers – especially of the late 70’s into the 80’s ilk. One classic shot of classic artists after another – her collection of work is really something else. To follow is the info on the show. Be sure to get yourself down to the Kasher Gallery on West 23rd between July 21 and August 19 for both of these very very promising shows.

The Vinyl Garage, Woodstock, NY

One of the advantages of living in the northeast is the close proximity to so many major cities, and all they have to offer – including record fairs and sales. All of them play host to fairs regularly, and this includes many secondary cities as well like Amherst MA, and Albany NY. If you’re really in the mood, you can do some serious sightseeing while doing some serious damage to your bank account.

One record dealing friend of mine, Mr. Mark Zip of Woodstock NY, has been selling records for years…not only does he regularly make the rounds to sell, he’s developed something of a tradition at his home between Woodstock and Saugerties NY in the Catskill Mountains.

TVD Vinyl Giveaway: The Young Things are Talking Too Loud

NYC’s The Young Things, who have been making some waves on the downtown club circuit via ready steady gigging, have a new single coming on 45.

Mr. Lenny Kaye likes ’em very much and had this to say: “Melodic and tuneful, seized with the exhilaration of that first moment of feeling a song come together, an amplifier feeding back, and an audience in full thrall, the Young Things renew the hope and promise of what being in a band is all about. Let the newest generation begin!”

The Young Things | Talking Too Loud

They have some very cool shows coming up including a support slot opening for Jesse Malin at the Bowery Electric on July 30.

The band has been kind enough to offer up 3 copies of the 45 to whomever can convince us why they should get one…in other words, let us know why you love the Young Things – who is the cutest, etc…you get it.

Have at it in the comments. We’ll choose our winners on Monday, 7/11!
