Pont:Productions and TVD NOLA present Berenice Mondays at Gasa Gasa

We at TVD NOLA are happy to announce an exciting event series in partnership with Pont:Productions on Mondays at Gasa Gasa. Berenice Mondays is a chill but focused happy hour featuring progressive and alternative music from both local and touring artists.

The listening party will feature a different new or upcoming release each week from an act with an upcoming show. DJs RQaway and OttO will also keep the party going, spinning an eclectic mix of underground hip hop, dance music, batucada, soul, rock-n-roll, funk, afrobeat, and more—with much of it coming from the DJs’ vinyl collections.

This week listeners will sample the Grammy nominated electronic infused hip-hop of the Foreign Exchange with their latest release Love In Flying Colors. The Foreign Exchange is a fascinating group, partly because they couldn’t have existed before this millennium.

Rapper Phonte and producer Nicolay didn’t meet until well after their first album was released. Representative of how the Internet can be a platform for creating music, rapper Phonte heard a beat from Nicolay on Okayplayer.com and e-mailed him asking if he could lay some vocals over it.

Their entire first album Connected was created this way, with Nicolay e-mailing Phonte beats, Phonte rapping over them, and e-mailing the results back. The project has since evolved into a full-fledged touring act with a Grammy nomination and four studio albums.

So music lovers, come over to Freret Street for your after-work happy hour and check out what Pitchfork has called the group’s “most mature” album, while enjoying $2-4 drink specials.

Anyone attending the listening party can sign an RSVP sheet that entitles them to free admission to an upcoming DJ set by FE’s beatmaker Nicolay at the Eiffel Society. Also, expect tons of fresh giveaways (CDs, DVDs, posters, stickers), including tickets to The FE’s June 29 show at Tipitina’s. We hope to see you there!
