SXSW: Detroit Invades Austin

Native Detroiter and TVD writer Charles Jordan, previews the hip hop acts from his hometown coming down to Austin for SXSW:

Black Milk – This MC/Producer is the closest thing to J Dilla that Detroit has to offer. He has been acknowledged by fans, critics, and peers as one of the better producers in the game. With five solo and six collabo albums under his belt this gifted MC and beatsmith paints the picture of the Detroit you only read and hear about.
Thursday March 17 12:40 am at Scoot Inn
Saturday March 19 TBA at Buffalo Billiards

Binary Star – Comprising of One Be Lo and Senim Silla, these two have been at it since 1998. Hailing from Pontiac, Michigan, these two have toured all over the world. The duo trade verses with a combination of storytelling and classic battle rhymes detailing life in “The Mitten”. Albums Waterworld and Masters of the Universe are both regarded as certified classics in underground hip hop circles. Wednesday March 16 10:30 at Fuze

Danny Brown – “The Hybrid”, this MC has gained recognition and success hustling his music on the internet. His clever wordplay and comical punchlines continue to bridge the gap between hipster and hood rap and prove that he is more than just hype.
Friday March 18, 11:30pm at Beauty Bar/Palm Door

Invincible + Waajeed – This MC and producer are both accomplished artists in their own right. Invincible, in my book, is one of the best female MC’s in the game (sorry Nicki Minaj). Waajeed’s productions have led him to work with such industry greats as Roy Ayers and Radiohead. These two link up at SXSW to give you some sounds of the city. Saturday March 19, 12:00 am Karma.
