Pick Up ‘Urgh! a Music War’ at Your Local Retailer

Here’s a list of what’s new at End of an Ear this week. This is not an all-inclusive look at this week’s new releases but simply a rundown of some cool stuff in stock at a local indie record store here in the ATX. Of special note is the Urgh! a Music War DVD. A seminal punk/post-punk doc I highly recommend.

Winter “Into Darkness” CD/LP (Southern Lord) One of the most enigmatic bands to emerge from the early 1990s, New York’s Winter produced a sound that would lay the blueprint for a new wave of doom-death, or funeral metal.. Reissue of original LP with bonus ‘Eternal Darkness’ EP tracks.

DVD
Bad Ronald DVD (ABC) Incredible made for TV movie from the mid 70’s. Ronald lives in a secret room inside of his house after his mother dies and a new family moves in. Inside the secret room he creates a make-belive world called “Atranta” and paints all of it’s inhabitants on the wall in a sprawling mural. Full of some genuinely frightening moments. Limited Edition Warner Archives Series release.
Cult Horror Collection: 4 Film Favorites DVD (Universal Studios) What a deal! For 8 bucks you get: Funhouse by Tobe Hooper, Serpent And The Rainbow, Phantasm 2, and the great snake horror movie SSSSSSSSSS.
Dealing: Or the Berkeley-To-Boston Forty-Brick Lost-Bag Blues DVD Harvard law student skips his entry exam to transport a suitcase full of pot from Berkeley to Boston. Starring John Lithgow, Barbara Hershey, Demond Wilson, and Buzzy Linhart! 1972. Limited Edition Warner Archives Series release.
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry/Race with the Devil DVD (Shout! Factory) An amazing Peter Fonda two-for-one. Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry is a high speed race car/grocery store heist film from the early 70’s and Race With The Devil is a movie about a group of people being chased around the country by Satanists in an RV. Both rip hard.
Dr. Black Mr. Hyde [35th Anniversary] DVD (VCI Entertainment) An unbeliveable mid-70’s drive-in gem. Bernie Casey redifines the concept of Masterpiece Theater in this story about a doctor inventing a serum to reverse the effects hepatitis who turns into an Albino monster when he tests the concoction on himself. Shot on the streets of LA in some of the hippest dive bars and apartment complexes of the times. This movie is a shining example of putting pride into your work. I’m serious. You think a company would waste time releasing a “35th Anniversay Edition” if they didn’t feel the same way about it?
Dusty and Sweets McGee DVD (Warner Bros.) Super rare film about real-life L.A. junkies in 1971 set to an all-star rock and roll soundtrack. Limited Edition Warner Archives Series release.
Hit Man DVD (MGM) Another rare and great Bernie Casey film. A lawyer travels to LA to find out who killed his brother and gets involved in the porno business and the Mob. Limited Edition Warner Archives Series release.
Urgh! a Music War DVD (Lorimar) Featuring The Police, Devo, The Go-Gos, Oingo Boingo, X, The Cramps, Surf Punks, Joan Jett, Pere Ubu and more. Finally, an official release of this often bootlegged, long out of print VHS. Limited Edition Warner Archives Series release.
