Chicago’s very own Rock & Roll Pig Roast is back for seconds after it’s inaugural run last September. Start eating light now, because you’re going to want to be hungry for this Saturday’s all-you-can-eat roast. Whole roasted pig, veggies, and cheap drinks might be the anchor of the festivities, this year’s roast will feature live music performances by ten of Chicago’s finest.
Among the event’s top-billed are psych-rockers, Secret Colours. We’ve recommended that you check out their live show before, and this time is no different. The group has their sophomore LP on the way, and a vinyl re-release of their debut full-length planned. You can still grab a copy of their limited run EP3+ on vinyl through DREAMOVER Records. Did I mention that every copy is a unique color?

Another one of Saturday’s top billed bands is indie-rock quartet Sybris. The group has been around for almost ten years, and is just out of the studio from recording their latest album, Gold on Hold. With albums out on Chicago’s Flameshovel Records and California’s Absolutely Kosher Records, Sybris has been on the road and across the country playing festivals as large as Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.

Rock & Roll Pig Roast wristbands are running $15 and include all-you-can-eat roasted pig and veggies, sides, and cheap drink and beer specials. There is currently a limited presale that will save you five bucks. If you decide to take advantage of the $10 presale, you will automatically entered into a the raffle for $100 to Standard Bar and Grill and $50 to Reckless Records. As if you needed any reason on top of roasted pig and live music to head out, a portion of the proceeds from the event will go directly to Rock for Kids, providing music education to the under-served children of Chicago.
The festivities will run from 12:00 Noon to 10:00 PM this Saturday, 8/25 at the Standard Bar and Grill – 1332 N Milwaukee Avenue. The all ages event is dog friendly and will run rain or shine.
