Tiger Blood on
the Dance Floor:
Genevan Heathen’s
Charlie Sheen EP

“Je Ne Sais Quoi” [I don’t know what] or WTF? Staff Writer Dulani Wallace tells you where to get Charlie Sheen’s face immortalized in vinyl.

For better or for worse, Charlie Sheen is onto a new career path with his My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option Show. His reputation, still oddly held to high esteem, continues to bring life to parodies, tributes, and rebukes on- and offline. Even record stores may feel a little impact in sales because of the release of the Charlie Sheen EP by Genevan Heathen.

The EP, featuring the track “Je Ne Sais Quoi,” is a take on the “Two and a Half Men” theme song. With producer Mattfoley, Genevan Heathen’s “Quoi” has that same intangible quality that might appear in a playlist with Frankie Lymon and The Beach Boys. Though the song is cute and nostalgic, “Je Ne Sais Quoi” and the rest of the Charlie Sheen EP has the same WTF appeal as the man Heathen pays tribute to.

Heathen and Matt Foley have a love jones for ’80s popular culture. As I researched them, it’s clear they hold the Brat Pack on the same pedestal as my parents would the Golden Age of Hollywood. Charlie Sheen, often seen as a non-core Brat Packer, is one of its most successful alumni. Now as his career turns faster than a 78, the Genevan Heathen and team may be on the road to trendsetting remixes, much to the delight of audiophiles.

The Genevan Heathen, aka Stephen Armleder, is a part of Villa Magica Records, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Since its catalog ranges from hip-hop to doo-wop, this is a dream come true for music writers like me as we await new genre-bending sounds. As it stands alone, the CS EP is a neat little piece of post-modern art, as it is a picture disc of Sheen’s face. But if this piece of vinyl gets into the right hands, God bless the Heathen for shepherding the Charlie Sheen EP. There will be tiger blood on the dance floor, and the show, whatever it may be for Charlie, will go on.
