TVD First Date: Early Winters

“Recently I’ve been re-purchasing some of my favourite albums on vinyl. Albums like Dave Brubeck’s ‘Time Out,’ Bonne ‘Prince’ Billy’s ‘Master and Everyone,’ anything by Percy Sledge, and anything by Radiohead. I mention these albums specifically because they all aid in my constant bungling through life.

Brubeck’s ‘Time Out’ is my work/reading album. I’m not a jazz nut, but to be quite honest, when this album’s spinning it makes me not want to severely injure myself while doing such gloriously mood-altering tasks as taxes.

‘Master and Everyone’ reminds me of memories I wish I had. It makes me want to be the caretaker of a few hundred yards of a river.

There’s nothing quite like Percy Sledge on vinyl. Dropping the needle turns one into an incredible lover, chef, athlete, cobbler, roofer, gardener, astronaut, and/or gargoyle-carver.

I got drunk a few weeks ago all by my lonesome on good scotch and cheap beer. I thought it would be a good idea to listen to “OK Computer” start to finish, since I hadn’t done that in years. Four sides. Eeny meeny miny and mo. I can’t recall when I had a better idea before or since. If you’ve got some spare time, I’d recommend it.” —Justin Rutledge
