TVD’s 9:30 Club July Concert Calendar Preview, Part I

You know the deal. We preview the 9:30 Club shows you should be checking out. You can enter later this month for a chance to win tickets to each of them.

It’s July (how is summer passing by so quickly?), the Friday before a three-day holiday weekend, and this is the last thing I have to do before going on vacation for a week. That is all that I think I need to say to introduce the first half—because there are always so many—of our JULY 9:30 CLUB TICKET GIVEAWAYS… Drum roll…

Wild Beasts
, Sat 7/16

Wild Beasts just released their third full-length Smother in May, via indie rock powerhouse Domino Records. BBC Music has already declared that “Smother might well prove to be the album of 2011,” and their last release, 2009’s Two Dancers was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK. Wild Beasts are doing some “pond jumping,” as DC’s 9:30 Club show is the last one they play before returning home to Europe for a few weeks of touring before heading back to North America in September.

Gomez w/ Good Old War, Mon 7/18

And then the very next show at the club continues the British indie rock takeover because Gomez will be stopping by, on tour for their newest release Whatever’s on Your Mind. I’ve been a fan ever since “Girlshapedlovedrug” from their 2006 release How We Operate gave me hope that someone out there could love me despite my quick temper. “She’s a Wicked Girl/ Worst in all the world/ A mystery lies in her.”

Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Tues 7/19

Does she really even need an introduction? Rock goddess Pat Benatar has been churning out (Grammy Award-winning) hits for over thirty years, including “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Love Is A Battlefield,” and “We Belong.” I guarantee you’ll be singing along to most of the show. Weeeee belong, we belong, we belong, to-gehh-ther…

The Glitch Mob w/ Phantogram & Com Truise, Wed 7/20

LA-based electronic maestros and multi-instrumentalists Justin Boreta, Ed Ma, and Joshua Mayer, the trio better known as The Glitch Mob, just dropped the very first track “Warrior Concerto” from their new EP We Can Make the World Stop, which is released July 12th. Download it below!

See y’all in a week or so, and Happy 4th! America, fuck yeah!
