TVD Ticket Giveaway: Matthew Sweet at the 9:30 Club, 6/9

Rather than following fads, Matthew Sweet has always been one to create his own signature style.

Although he has been cranking out jam-worthy music since the mid-’80s, his breakthrough came with the release of his 1991 album Girlfriend. This year just so happens to mark the 20th anniversary of the album. Hence the name of the tour, which will be featuring the album in its entirety for all to relive.

Last September, Sweet debuted his latest album, Modern Art. The name behind this album simply came from a possible idea for a title. After further examination, Sweet noticed that it resembled the term “modern heart.” It was from that point that he knew what this album would represent, the two competing forces against the ever-refreshing state of time and the aged emotional heart. It is these two concepts that truly bring out what you will experience listening to Modern Art.

This is your chance to catch Matthew Sweet’s Girlfriend Tour at the 9:30 Club on June 9th. Don’t miss your opportunity to see an artist performing some of his greatest work with a nice cold beer in hand and a pair of pleased ears.

I see a pair of free tickets in your future. It’s simple, just tell TVD in the comment box below, your favorite song with “Girl” in the title.

We’re going with Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.”

The winner will be chosen on Wednesday, April 11th, at noon.

Since @Misshethra beat me to the first one that came to mind, I’ll go with the Cramps’ “Naked Girl Falling Down The Stairs”.  (I’m assuming that the plural “Girls” is not allowed, otherwise I’d go with the Cramps’ “Bikini Girls With Machine Guns”.)

I have to go with what I consider to be one of the most romantic songs ever, which is Tom Petty’s “Here Comes My Girl.”  Yes, it is romantic.  It’s exactly what I would want my man to feel and say about me — “But when she puts her arms around me I can, somehow, rise above it Yeah, man when I got that little girl standin’ right by my side You know, I can tell the whole wide world to SHOVE IT, hey! Here comes my girl”

  • grendelthedog

“Girl in a Box” by the Blake Babies. A precursor to Nirvana’s “Polly,” though peppier and somehow more creepy.
