Weekend Shots!

Turkey stuffing is over rated. December is almost here and attending a live show is the only way to face it all while working off your Turkey Day eating spree. Head on out this weekend as we have something for everyone: the indie rocker, the soul chaser, and the dance queen! Let’s embrace December this weekend and start living our other lives before it’s too late!

Friday, November 30th: Other Lives and Indians at Rock and Roll Hotel | Catch the gorgeous, multi instrumental five-piece from Oklahoma, Other Lives, as a headliner at the Hotel. They’ve toured with the likes of Radiohead and Bon Iver, but don’t let their supporting success fool you, they’re a genuinely talented band worthy of praise in their own right.

Other Lives create serious music for the thoughtful listener via their latest album, Tamer Animals. Don’t just wish for Other Lives – experience it tonight!

Saturday, December 1st: The Souljazz Orchestra with The 8 Ohms at Jammin Java | Jammin Java is living up to its name inviting Canada’s Souljazz Orchestra to heat things up. Souljazz has been filling ears with funk for over ten years, creating a fusion of “soul, jazz, afro, latin, and Caribbean rhythms, driven by majestic horn-drenched melodies, all backed by an arsenal of overheated primitive keyboards.” If you can’t imagine what that sounds like, get yourself to Vienna for a soul-infused night.

The 8 Ohms – a 9 piece band out of Annapolis are sure to set your red dancing shoes on…fire!

Saturday, December 1st: STEREOCHEMISTRY: Ex Ex Ex and Guest Evan Michael (Brooklyn Bass) at the Science Club located at 1136 19th St. NW. The party starts at 9:30pm and goes till 2:30am. No Cover! | If hiking it out to Vienna doesn’t interest you, allow yourself to experience “Disco, House, Funk, Indie, Acid, Vibezz.” Say what?!

Get out there and experience the vibes for yourself, and don’t worry no one will quiz on the entire spectrum of organic, inorganic, biological, physical, and especially supramolecular chemistry, it’s a dance party yo!

Sunday, December 2nd: The Farewell Drifters at IOTA supporting Miss Tess & The Talkbacks | The Farwell Drifters describe themselves as Musical Nerdery, with their latest album, Echo Boom, rising from the ashes of the baby boom era. The farewell drifters bring a familiar sound to our ears that doesn’t fit well into one genre. (Maybe it has to do with the fact that when recording the album they used Bob Hope’s old desk microphone and an ’80s tape recorder?)

Regardless, these four Nashville nerds are a good reason to come down to Arlington’s IOTA for a knee slappin’ good time.

Get out there DC and get your freak on, your soul chased, or your other life in tune.
