TVD Ticket Giveaway: Atoms for Peace at the Patriot Center, 9/30

Rarely does the term “supergroup” conjure images of longstanding success in the rock world. But then, only one of them is lead by Thom Yorke.

In 2009, a few years after releasing his first solo album, Radiohead’s front man began collaborating on a side project with producer Nigel Godrich and Flea, bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Later joined by drummer Joey Waronker (of Beck and R.E.M.) and percussionist Mauro Refosco (of Forro in the Dark), the band gave its first performance in L.A. before it even had a name.

Luckily, the anonymous lineup has since established a name for itself—and possibly redefined the idea of the supergroup, once described as a “potent but short-lived rock phenomenon.” After making its official debut at Coachella in 2010, Atoms for Peace toured briefly around the U.S. and finished its first album in 2012. The product was Amok, a psychedelic set of digitally-manipulated jam sessions that easily rivals the groove-worthiness of Yorke’s prior endeavors.

Despite early criticism, Amok’s 2013 release generated favorable response, and after re-welcoming Flea from his tour with the Chili Peppers, Yorke et al hit the road this summer with a European tour. The group’s U.S. tour begins September 24, and we’re giving away tickets to their third stopover at the Patriot Center on September 30.

For fans of Yorke’s experimental style, or anyone with an ear for brilliantly crafted beats for that matter, Atoms for Peace is a must-see. So go ahead, tell us your favorite experimental rock band, and you could nab tickets on us.

My vote is for Alt-J, whose debut album is constantly on repeat in my music library.

We’ll choose 2 winners for a pair of tickets each on Friday, September 27. Tickets are still available.
