TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

Here in LA we experience something we call “June Gloom.” It’s a weather pattern actually caused by cool ocean air colliding with with the warm desert sky. The result is foggy June mornings here in the canyon. In reality, many friends here in LA have been “under the weather.” There have been ear aches, tonsils taken, hernias removed, car crashes, and fender benders. We’ve had to say farewell to departed friends, my old friend Mike even lost his dog of many years. Shit that hurts!

On Tuesday Spring left us for Summer solstice, so it’s now fair time to shrug off the gloom and and say “Hello Summertime!”

Yesterday my teenager finished an often painful 10th grade school year. Her weekend request: “I just wanna party.” My response: “Why the fuck not?” Here at the Idelic Hour it’s time to ring wedding bells, roll up our pant legs and kick up off our boots with a party mix!

I started to imagine what a great Summertime teen party would look like and I found myself day dreaming of a rock n roll revival my Mom took me to in the early 70’s. I remembered Chubby Checker, covered in sweat, house lights on, Madison Square Garden, twisting a hot night away. With “checkered thoughts” I started digging through crates with two agendas. First to drop a cool teenage “sock-hop” vibe while at the same time throwing in a little “Best of 2011 (so far) List.”

OK perfect! The Idelic Hour presents our Best of 2011 Songs (so far) “Sock Hop” version which I’m calling Idelic “Twist the Gloom Away!”

Bands making the Idelic “sock hop” scene: The Kills, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Cults, Tune-yards, Hospital Ships, California Wives, Bodies of Water, Generationals, Jeff The Brotherhood and Battles!

Let’s twist again like we did last Summer…
