Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
I’m so happy ’cause today I found my friends / They’re in my head / I’m so ugly, that’s okay, ’cause so are you / Broke our mirrors
Sunday morning is every day for all I care / And I’m not scared / Light my candles in a daze / ‘Cause I’ve found God / Yeah-yeah / Yeah-yeah
October 23 is one of my special days of the year. It was on this morning, many moons ago, my daughter came into being. It’s a weird thing to write, but having a child and being a parent is more mind-blowing than what I’ve referred to in this column as a “mind-blower” (IE: a once in a once-in-a-decade music moment).
Today is Zoe’s Day—truly as cool of a kid in every way I could have possibly imaged.
On a side note, Jonah stopped by the house. He walked into the kitchen and asked me, “Dad, have you hear of Alice In Chains?” Took out his phone and played me “Rooster.” “Dad, I’m thinking of using this as my ‘walk up song’.” (For when he walks to the mound to pitch.)
It brought me back to standing in the Small’s parking lot with Lane and Rezin (the grim reaper in the “Man In the Box” video).
Yes, parenthood is a rollercoaster ride full of twists, turns, joyous elation, and fear. I hope it never ends.

Happy birthday, Zoe! LFG ! Oh, and here’s some vintage grunge to go with cake.
