Show of the Week: Darwin Deez @ The Hitone 02/07/11

Indie pop songwriter, Darwin Deez, from New York City will be at the Hi-Tone this Monday the 7th. Although recording his debut “on an old PC with a $200 mic,” he’ll be coming through will full band. However, I can only weigh in on the record.

The self-titled debut was put out on Lucky Number in the UK, where Darwin has had moderate success with 3 singles charting. “Radar Detector” reached #62 on the UK chart and #5 on the UK Independent chart. He even supposedly played a sold out show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. And I’m guessing 99.9% of you haven’t heard of him. Alas, this is the industry we’re in. Crazy!

Anyway, the record consists of 10 tracks that contain electric guitar, percussion, and the simplest of electronic beats and…..that’s pretty much it besides him singing. But guess what? It’s badass. Hooks are everywhere on each track. His percussive guitar playing provides the bed underneath his honest, catchy, sung-with-ease melodies. With a full band, I’m thinking this show will be a blast and a half. Every song on the record is light and seemingly positive, a breath of fresh air to so much in this scene.

So go to the Hi-Tone Monday night. Our very own Modern Convenience will open and it’s also all-you-can-eat wings night for $7 (5pm-11pm) along with $1 PBR drafts. Doors at 9, show at 10.

Wanna see the show for free? We have tickets! Just plead your case in the comments!!
