The Line Up with Tiger High and the Magic Kids

On the off-chance you’ve been living under a rather large rock, This time of year is known for good cheer and a giving spirit. A time to be thankful for what you have and to keep those you’re most fond of, closest to you. Considering this tradition, why not take advantage of the season, and grab your closest buddies out for a night on the town?

Oh, you were already thinking this? Well, say no more! This weekend will be a potluck of pop music to provide something for everyone with an ear for melody. Dressed in a very well-fitted Christmas theme, the itinerary for this Friday and Saturday is looking to set your holiday thrusters to max power and rush forward! Here’s a list of some sugary sweet Christmas treats playing around Memphis these next two days. Bursting at the seams with holiday cheer, this set of satiating songwriters will have you ready for Cosby sweaters and Muppet specials well before the first airing of A Christmas Story.

As Friday (12/16/11) night encroaches, the real festivities will begin. Tiger High will be bringing holiday cheery goodness to the heart of midtown at The HiTone Cafe. The band itself is a melting pot of gooey talent, a solid collection of Memphians who all have decorated pasts in a myriad of bands that have well represented the 901 area code. They’re hosting a holiday-themed show with support from the massive Man Control, so be sure to cancel your curfew and equip a festive spirit as your wing man this fantastic Friday.

Saturday (12/17/11) will be the perfect Santa’s cap on a collection of eventful evenings. Not only will things get exponentially seasonal, they’ll also increase in reference to our favorite thing ever: vinyl! Memphis’ very own Shangri-La Records will be throwing the most magical of all December-based bashes. The evening will be powered by the mystical sounds of the Magic Kids! Memphis’ most sugary-sweet pop act will bring their inviting throwback sound to the always hot HiTone. They’ll be supported by the melancholic masterworks of Fraysia, so the evening’s song will be as heartfelt as any carol and as warm as any fireplace.

Tuning up for the holidays can be a difficult chore. Between avoiding wallet-aimed Christmas adverts and the same regurgitated holiday tunes remade for the 1000th time, there’s always room for a true blue seasonal spirit. If you’re in Memphis this weekend, let this work as a guiding star in the sky beckoning where the true meaning of the holidays may be.
