Chubby Carrier, Randy Newman Bring Home the Grammy

Ever since the Grammy awards created the Cajun/Zydeco category, Louisiana artists have been garanteed at least one statuette each years. Congratulations to Chubby!

Randy Newman won for his soundtrack to the motion picture, Toy Story 3. The soundtrack of HBO series Tremé was nominated, but the Grammy went to the Jeff Bridges film Crazy Heart.

This year, despite several nominations, other local musicians were shut out. Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, a long shot in the Contemporary Jazz category anyway, lost out to the bassist Stanley Clarke. Dr. John, a perennial favorite in the Contemporary Blues category, was bested by Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy. Wynton Marsalis lost out to Herbie Hancock for Best Improvised Jazz Solo.
