Show of the Week: Dave Malone of the Radiators Joins Bonerama

This afternoon at Lafayette Square, the front man and guitarist teams up with a band that has been performing his music for some time now. He also has a new web site.

Mark Mullins, one of the three trombonists that make up Bonerama, has arranged a number of Radiators songs for a horn section. He has also performed with them numerous times over the years. Now it’s Malone’s turn to return the favor. It is his first local high profile stage appearance since the iconic rock group broke up in June after over 33 years together. The two are pictured together above.

On that fateful weekend in June, Bonerama was performing in New York City. With more than a few fishheads in the crowd, they surprised the audience and paid tribute to the Radiators by performing several of their songs including “Where Was You At,” “Cocktail Music,” “Soul on Fire,” “Confidential” and “Suck Da Heads.” Since Malone was the lead vocalist (and composer of “Where Was You At”) on half of the tunes that Bonerama has already performed, they will likely be included in this evening’s set list.

Additionally, the two bands share a common affection for numerous other classic rock and soul acts. So I would not be surprised to hear Malone and Bonerama guitarist Bert Cotton face off on the Allman Brothers’ “Whippin’ Post” or something from the catalog of Ernie K-Doe or other legends of New Orleans R&B. Check back tomorrow for a full report.
