Clarinetist Dan Levinson to join the faculty of the New Orleans Traditional Jazz Camp

The organizers of the jazz camp for adults announced today that the world-renowned instrumentalist will be on the faculty for 2012.

During a twenty-year career, Dan Levinson (pictured above center) has appeared alongside such prominent artists as Dick Hyman, Mel Tormé and Wynton Marsalis. He played in Woody Allen’s band when they toured Brazil and has performed on over 75 CDs. Levinson can be heard on the sound tracks of several films including Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator.

He joins returning faculty members Connie Jones on cornet, Otis Bazoon on clarinet, Ray Moore on saxophone, David Sager on trombone, David Boeddinghaus on piano, Carl LeBlanc on banjo/guitar, Matt Perrine on tuba, Kerry Lewis on bass, Gerald French on drums and Banu Gibson and Leah Chase on vocals.

Also joining the camp as a special adjunct faculty member is cornetist Ed Polcer who’s credits range from playing in Benny Goodman’s Sextet to running Eddie Condon’s club in New York City between 1975 and 1985. He has played at the White House for President Clinton and for the King of Bangkok.

The New Orleans Traditional Jazz Camp is scheduled from June 10-16, 2012
