I have been writing about bands and musicians in this town for nearly 30 years and I can count the number of times on both hands that I have received a heartfelt, written thank you from one of them. The latest came from Johnson for my coverage of his gig at Café Istanbul early last month.
So let me add to what I wrote back in December. Johnson is a fine young man with impeccable manners!
A headlining gig at Snug Harbor is the pinnacle for local jazz musicians. Heck, it’s one of the best gigs in town for a touring act as well. Being able to hold an album release party there is icing on the cake. Sets are at 8 and 10 PM. The band tonight features Ocie Davis on drums, Brian Quezergue on bass and Eduardo Tozzatto on keys.
The album is called Jewel’s Lullaby and it has been getting rave reviews especially here. It features original compositions from the saxophonist as well as strong musical contributions from his band, which features Nathan Lambertson on bass and Joe Dyson on drums.
