Weekend Shots,
Super Bowl Edition!

There’s so much music going on around town that it’s virtually impossible to keep up with who’s playing where. The high-profile parties with the likes of Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg), Justin Timberlake, and Little Wayne are mostly either big money benefits or private affairs. Here’s my picks for “going where they’re not” for this big weekend.

Friday night, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will be throwing down at the Maple Leaf Bar. I have it on good authority that there may be some Carnival royalty in the house.

Additionally, the Sketchy Boys are working on a new album with acclaimed producer Tracy Freeman. He’s best known nationally for his work with Harry Connick, Jr. (they went to high school together), but TVD loves him for his work with Kermit Ruffins, the Rebirth Brass Band, and other local acts.

If you decide to go into the fray that is downtown New Orleans this weekend, don’t forget about the big festival taking place on the river. I wrote about it on Wednesday and the full schedule is here.

Speaking of the Rebirth Brass Band, they are playing on Saturday night at the Howlin’ Wolf. It’s on the edge of the fray, but the room is big enough to accommodate the crowd. They did win the Grammy last year, so expect some celebs in the house.

Tipitina’s is hosting George Porter, Jr. and the Running Pardners and Shamarr Allen and the Underdogs. That’s where all my funky friends and I will be hanging out.

See you there!
