The Grammy-awarding winning trumpeter Irvin Mayfield appeared at a press conference at his namesake club in the Royal Sonesta Hotel to announce the schedule for this year’s Festival of Giving: 7 Nights of Music, 7 Nights of Giving.
The series is unique for New Orleans in that 100% of tickets sales will benefit a different non-profit organization each night beginning on Friday, August 23 and extending through Thursday, August 29, 2013.
The “Love Sessions” will feature Irvin Mayfield & the Jazz Playhouse Revue with numerous special guests. Each concert will be recorded.In addition to Mayfield on trumpet, the band features John Chin on piano, Peter Harris on bass, Adonis Rose on drums, Derek Douget on tenor saxophone, Vince Gardner on trombone, and John Marshall on baritone saxophone.
Special guest performers include James Rivers, Davell Crawford, Germaine Bazzle (pictured below) and Don Vappie to name a few.
The 2013 beneficiaries are listed in order beginning with August 23: the New Orleans Public Library Foundation, Legacy Foundation & Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.), Eden House, UNITY of Greater New Orleans, Son of a Saint Sports Foundation, Louisiana Children’s Museum, and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra.
