Proposed noise ordinance in front of City Council committee tomorrow, 1/17

It has been called an assault on our way of life in New Orleans. A vocal group of French Quarter residents has been pushing for changes in the way the city deals with live music, brass bands, street parades, and other elements of our culture. The ordinance will be debated Friday at noon.

There are many different voices chiming in about this proposed ordinance. TVD recommends that concerned citizens, especially musicians and other individuals and businesses that are part of the so-called cultural economy make their voices heard as well.

The Music and Culture Coalition of New Orleans is organizing a rally that begins Friday morning at 11 AM in Duncan Plaza across the street from City Hall. The Human Needs Committee meets at noon. Details on the rally and the MaCCNO are here. Also check the site for contact info for the mayor and council members.
