TVD Recommends: Shakedown II: A Benefit for the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic, 2/13

In case you haven’t been paying attention, health care is getting a lot of attention in the United States with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. However, some long-established programs are in danger of losing funding. Among them is the critically important NOMC.

So, some local musicians are taking the cause into their own hands. Led by members and management of the New Orleans Suspects, Shakedown is a new concert series to raise funds for the clinic. This is the second installment. All proceeds of the show at the Howlin’ Wolf go to the clinic’s efforts to support the health of local musicians and members of the music community.

The Hot 8 Brass band will open the show. The group of ace musicians are intimately aware of the health care needs of local musicians considering trumpeter Terrell Batiste lost both of his legs as the result of an automobile accident after Hurricane Katrina.

Several full-on band performances follow including sets by Bonerama, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, and the Honey Island Swamp Band.

Two killer pianists, Tom Worrell and Andre Bohren (also known as Dirty Johnny with the Sketchy boys), will perform two wildly different sets. Worrell will pay tribute to Professor Longhair and Bohren will pay tribute to George Gershwin. Hey, it’s New Orleans—we gotta lot of influences.

For fans of the Radiators, Ed Volker, the ever-more-active leader of the sorely missed band, will be debuting a new composition with the New Orleans Suspects.

Tickets for this all-star night are only $20 and can be purchased here.
