Satchmo SummerFest kicks off with special concert and party Thursday night, 8/4

The Satchmo SummerFest begins in earnest with a special fundraising show at the recently renovated Le Petite Theatre du Vieux Carre featuring the one and only pianist Tom McDermott performing with a full band. They will perform the music of Louis Armstrong over the span of his career. The concert is on August 4, which just so happens to be Armstrong’s birthday.

The band includes trumpeter Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown, who sings and plays in the style of Armstrong in the Ella and Louis Tribute Band, bassist Richard Moten, clarinetist Joe Goldberg, drummer Benny Amon and trombonist Rick Trolsen.

Following the intimate show, a second line will head to the Omni Royal Orleans for a party, which will give fans a chance to interact with many of the luminaries associated with the festival and it’s accompanying educational symposium.

Tickets—$25 for the concert and $150 for the concert and party which includes food and an open bar—are available here.
